With close to 10,000 songs submitted across the European broadcasters, there’s a lot of scope to pick the wrong song for your country’s Eurovision Song Contest entry. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible to get it right. Through the National Finals this year, a number of countries managed to get the perfect song to Copenhagen for the Contest. Who got it right when they were selecting a song via public vote?
With the release of the full televote rankings and the individual rankings for each jury member, we can look at the differences between the two camps. John Egan compares the results of a 100% jury vote to a 100% televote in the first of a series of articles on ESC Insight looking at the voting issues and trends of Eurovision 2014.
We’re going to Austria next year, and the infrastructure in Austria suggests we need to start planning a trip to Vienna for May 2015. Excellent! But what should we expect from our hosts ORF for the 60th Edition of the Song Contest?
Watching back the Grand Final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest over a welcome Scottish breakfast, Vikki leans over to me and asks “did you spot the lyric change at the end?” Wait a minute. Strike that, Conchita. Reverse it. What lyric change?
And that’s your lot for Eurovision 2014. We have a winner, we have analysis to go through, and we have time for one last podcast from Copenhagen with Ewan Spence and Samantha Ross (ESC Insight), and DJ Ohrmeister (Prinz ESC Blog).
Last month Ewan Spence sat down with Conchita Würst for one of our In-Depth Insight Podcasts. Given her victory, it seems only fair to re-run the interview now as we all make our way home from Copenhagen.
