It’s a welcome return to Eurovision Again for the summer, and a chance to go back in time and share another historic Eurovision Song Contest. This month the community is heading to Madrid for the 14th Song Contest, and just as we did last year, ESC Insight has a companion podcast for the show where we can go behind the scenes, talk about the National Finals, look over the rule book, and experience a Podcast Postcard.
Eurovision Insight Podcast: Eurovision Again 1969
A companion podcast to Eurovision Again’s trip to Madrid. Join us as we go over the rulebook, National Final gems, the State Of Pop, and the history of the Teatro Real.
Hosted by Ewan Spence, with AJ Clay, and Tatiana Benidovskaya from Madrid’s Ogo Tours.
Stay in touch with the Eurovision Song Contest during the new season by listening to the ESC Insight podcast. You’ll find the show in iTunes, Google Podcasts, and Spotify. A direct RSS feed is available. We also have our email newsletter which you can sign up to here.
An interesting insight of a completely different era. This was the first contest I ever watched and is one of my earliest memories of anything. I watched with my father and we filled our own scores in the chart printed in a newspaper. In those days, that’s what we were encouraged to do rather than throw parties.
We were both disappointed that Lulu didn’t win outright, as we couldn’t see any merit in the three other winning songs. A lesson I learned (at age 8) is that I’d have enjoyed the contest a lot more if I’d got to know those other entrants as much as I had Boom Bang A-Bang. Not so easy to do in 1969 as it is now. We couldn’t have begun to imagine how much the contest has changed in 50 years.
