In terms of predicting the winner the running order throws everything up in the air. From the videos the two strongest songs by some way are Albania and Russia, but they have been drawn 3 and 4. Placing both so early in the first half surely benefits – well Malta. 5th is not looking so bad a draw from there – particularly as the initial rehearsal indications for the Maltese entry looked very promising. From those coming 6th or later in the running order it is difficult to see a winner. FYR Macedonia’s live performance may let a decent song down and although Cyprus have a good draw and a powerful stage show, are enough adult and child jurors going to vote for a song without a discernible melody? As for Ireland, they were already a contender for last place but the number 1 draw makes this a strong possibility.
