Newsletter: Reviewing Eurovision In Concert Written by on April 11, 2016

After the biggest Eurovision preview event of the year, our Newsletter is still standing. Read this week’s Newsletter for all the latest news and views on the Eurovision Song Contest, and remember to join the subscribers list here.

This week saw the majority of this year’s Eurovision artists arrive in Amsterdam for Eurovision In Concert, and we’ve gone through the most interesting snippets from the press room and the performances to give you chance to catch up with what you missed.

Robertson’s Reflection, our regular Newsletter column, reviews the entries that were performed in Amsterdam. Who can come out of the Melkweg feeling like a champion, and who has to go back to the drawing board. Read one suggestion below, and more in the Newsletter itself.

Joe and Jake blended in perfectly when winning the UK National Final. Sadly the boys routine here in Amsterdam looked completely amateurish in amongst this higher calibre. There were a couple of bum notes, which can happen to anybody, but more concerning is the chemistry of the pair. I don’t think it’s fixable too, but their characters seem to have more in common with a GCSE performance piece than Eurovision superstars. I can only now see the British song being used as cannon fodder to separate more powerful and bombastic pop numbers, and the BBC should be thankful the new voting system might produce double figures. Expect Irish and Danish televotes to offer something, and some random Eastern jury points because the song is not bad, but nothing more than that is going to come there way.
