In typical tradition of ESC Insight, you won’t find the usual blogging of song reviews, or news updates online. But that doesn’t mean we don’t love reading others. Keeping one eye on the rehearsals/press conferences, there is need as media to read the most recent gossip and news.
On a daily basis from Dusseldorf, ESC Insight will check out our compatriots coverage of the world of Eurovision, try to see whats happening from others perspectives, and bring your attention to some of the best.
Here’s what the world had to say about Eurovision on Sunday 8 May, 2011
Double(crossing) Dutch
We aren’t sure how this one party slipped from notice of the media, but the Dutch delegation hosted their party on the Dutch boat on Friday night inviting many of the participants to enjoy the river views and perform at their own private bar.

Eurovision officially opens
Last night marked the officially opening of the Eurovision Song Contest, with a welcome reception held at Tonhalle by the mayor of Dusseldorf. Everyone that was anyone was there apparently, as is the way with the red carpet events, and seemingly, dogs as well. Alexey from Russia brought along his corgi Elvis to trot along and get the star treatment.

The Big Five get a high five
Yesterday also marked the first opportunity for the big five countries – Spain, France, United Kingdom, Italy and hosts Germany, to rehearse on the Eurovision stage. Judging by the reactions, France is firming nicely as the favourite to win, but that didnt stop the other countries giving it a red hot go in the race.

The Eurovision alternative
For those who were not lucky enough to score invites to the biggest party in town, many headed to the Euroclub to enjoy the music, the dancing, the company of friends and a little bit of Spain. Lucia Perez, competitor of Spain, headed on over to the frankly friendlier and more relaxed party, and lifted many peoples spirits with a bit of a joyful singalong to her own song.
