I don’t share your optimism about the UK. If they had secured a substantial act to sing then their name would and should have been publicised by now. Every day which ticks by without news takes us nearer to an inexperienced performer who is simply going to be popped up for Rotterdam.
There’s a huge difference between between having ‘optimism’ about a broadcaster’s process and assuming that sticking to a later deadline than certain areas of fandom feel is appropriate means ‘inexperienced performer’. I’m curious, Marc, as to what you would define as the lowest level of experience you personally would be happy with?
Well certainly above that of MAID last year who, we were told, hadn’t even performed together live before Eurovision You Decide. My fear is that as time goes by we’re more likely to get an act like that than a James Blunt or Ed Sheeran. I hope I am wrong but if I am, wouldn’t it have been great publicity for the contest in the UK to have had that name revealed well before now? In the Keep Dancing Podcast Ellie suggested that last year’s Strictly final would have been a great moment to do so. My fingers were crossed for that but nothing happened then or since. I can’t help feeling that this means we’re going further down the barrel.
