This week’s Newsletter kicks off in Tel Aviv where the latest Preview event to grace the circuit kicked off this week. As well as that there is news on Eurovision hitting the front of the British tabloids, possible strikes at SVT, and a new date for Junior Eurovision.
That is the focus of Ben Robertson’s column in today’s Newsletter. Junior Eurovision has moved to a Sunday afternoon slot, but how will this change the competition as we know it today?
However what seems extra interesting from the statement made by the EBU is that members, both those competing and not, have expressed that they are looking for a children and family friendly viewing slot. Across the Eastern countries in particular Junior Eurovision is broadcast too late to be kids entertainment and a switch to an earlier time zone seems sensible. However the idea of aiming for a child audience is tweaked differently from the Yakovlev era, which I saw make Junior Eurovision more grown up with social media really driving a teenage feel. Perhaps there is a shift backwards to attract a catchment which is easier to target.
Make sure to subscribe to the Newsletter to catch all the news coming through the Press Centre and beyond during the frantic Eurovision fortnight…just a fortnight away!
