The newsletter also features the opinion’s of our editor Ben Robertson in his Robertson’s Reflection section. This week he is looking at Melodifestivalen and making his betting predictions. Who this year can upset the odds and win the trophy? Below is Robertson’s top tip for winning you money from Melfest Semi Final One.
Melodifestivalen’s Semi Final One comes from Gotebörg this year where Eric Saade is the hot favourite to qualify. He is not the most popular boy in Sweden at the moment but his songwriting team alone should give it enough to go through. The song would need to be his best to win the entire schlager festival though as he has burnt too many bridges with his fan base; 9-4 to win Melodifestivalen is not good value. For value in Semi Final One look at Molly Petterson Hammar to surprise at 3-1 to qualify. SVT have given her the chance to shine opening the show which is a big call for the young singer. In the last three years Melodifestivalen’s opening song has been 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their semi final. In this likely battle for the second spot though Jessica Andersson’s ballad (11-8) is the more expected prospect above Molly and Behrang Miri (13-8) with his Swedish language rap.
Top Bet: Molly Petterson Hammar (3-1) to qualify to the Final
