Our Newsletter Says Farewell To Junior Eurovision Written by on November 19, 2014

The ESC Insight team have now returned home from their adventuring in Malta and are suffering from the new epidemic sweeping across the continent of Post Junior Eurovision Depression (PJED).  In a desperate attempt to make the office feel like a pretend Press Centre, we we have our latest edition of the ESC Insight Newsletter.

The newsletter goes through the headlines, dramas and funny moments that happened during the final couple of days in Malta before returning focus to the competition that is hotting up in Vienna next year.  As always the newsletter features Robertson’s Reflection looking back on the ideas that made him adore Junior Eurovision as well as a couple of choice examples where the ethos needs to be further tightened for the future.

“I spoke kindly about the great effects of Junior Eurovision in my last newsletter. I come back here to Stockholm after an 11-hour journey sharing the joy. People in the day job ask me how it was and I tell them that it was world class. I explain how it’s like leaving behind your favourite class for a new teacher but ten times worse. I explain how satisfying it is to leave your two-penneth of tips or trivia to the kids who are eager to learn beyond belief. I explain how it was fun at all levels.

The heights of Malta’s organisation and willingness to put on a good show were clear to see and the result was one of the best Junior Eurovision, if not Eurovision, experiences full stop. Having kids at the front of the stage was brilliant, but is common on Junior Eurovision organisation. However in Malta each school had adopted one of the countries competing, meaning the kids in the hall self-sectioned themselves into groups flying their flags and whooping their entries with energy us oldies lack. Never before have so many San Marino flags been waved high with such unadulterated jubilation.”
