Timelapsing Dziesma 2014 from Latvia Written by on February 23, 2014 | 4 Comments

Here’s a little something special. During last night’s Dziesma final in Latvia, not only did the ESC Insight team occupy the front row with as many national flags as possible, we also taped a rather special bit of kit to the on-stage monitors.

The Autographer camera has built in light and motion sensors, a wide angle 135 degree lens, and some smart computer code to decide when to take a picture. Once the night was over, we can use all those images to create a time-lapse of the entire show. Which you can watch now…

We’d like to thank the team at LTV for their help and support through their National Final weekend, and we’ve got some more coverage and reporting from backstage over the next day or two. But for now, we’ve got a Cake to Bake…

That is a really cool video. Was it a big shock in the studio when Cake To Bake won?

  2. Ewan Spence says:

Peter, a good question. Certainly we were ready for a Dons victory, and were shocked that Cake made it. Personally I’m really happy, but I know that it’s not the best ‘music’ that Latvia could send – it was the ‘happiest’ music on the night though!

This is such an ingenious idea! Really interesting how it came out. You still have an idea of who everyone is. Did they know at the time that you had the camera there? lol

  4. Ewan Spence says:

The technical staff knew it was there, but the camera is about the size of a matchbox, so it was gaffer taped to a monitor and was very inconspicuous.
