There’s lots of coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest out there on the internet, so here are some stories that have caught the eye of the ESC Insight team in the last twenty four hours.

In It To Win In

Rick over on 12points.tv has taken a closer look at the PR strategy employed by the Azeri delegation to promote ‘Hold Me’ and keep the media interest high. It’s the sort of strategy you would use if you really (really) want to win the Song Contest. What do you make of the conclusions?

1000 to 48

Speaking of PR, Belarus were all set to hand out one thousand bottles of Vodka to promote ‘Solayoh’ in Malmo, but Swedish customs have had other ideas. Their allowance gives them 48 bottles of vodka from home, and they’ve decide to not pay the 40,000 euro tax. Instead, they’ll head out and grab some big bottles of Absolut.

Would You Mind If…

Friend of the parish David Elder has drafted a rather tongue in cheek letter from the Macedonian delegate to the EBU following the English language presentation of their song yesterday:

Well, we were wondering if if would be if OK if we sing a slightly different song again in Malmo, with a completely different backing to the one we gave you to pop on the official album, and although we said we’d sing in our native language, we’ll actually sing in English, if that’s OK?

Oh, and we may actually change it so that it sounds much more like the original song that we ditched, cos apparently all the queens round Europe are going mental for that one…

And, if it’s OK with you, we might actually make it a ballad, instead of up-tempo…
