Tell The World The Bed Is No Longer On Fire Written by on March 11, 2013 | 4 Comments

The deadline to submit the Eurovision 2013 songs to the EBU is just over a week away, so a few loose ends and National Finals to mark off this week.

There’s also a few more song presentations, and somewhere in the mix we have to hear the new song for Macedonia – the online reaction to ‘Imperija‘ has given MRT pause for thought, and they’re going to look at another potential song or two while they still have time.

This Week’s Results

Israel saw the televote winner Ron Weinreich scoring a massive nul points with the jury, so the second placed Moran Mazor will take her song, Bishvilo, to the 2013 Contest. It’s been a relatively successful ‘big’ format National Selection for Israel, and we hope to see something similar next year.

Romania also had a close result between the televote and the jury, and once the maths was worked out contra-falsetto singer Cezar picked up the ticket to Sweden’s third city.

Speaking of Malmo, the last time he sung in the Malmo Arena, Robin Stjernberg only made it to Andra Chansen. But now Sweden have a Melodifestivalen winner that made it through the second chance round, and Stjernberg will return to the Arena in May. I wonder if SVT would be happy if he finished third or fourth again?

Coming Up This Week

  • It’s a week of shows from our only country to choose a song this week by public voting. Moldova run two Semi finals on Tuesday and Thursday, with a National Final on Saturday. That all feels like they’ve filed the names off the main announcement.
  • The end of Mystery Song Theatre 3000 is due on Thursday, as Azerbaijan hold their National Final to choose a song for Malmo.
  • We also have two scheduled song presentations – Anouk’s song for The Netherlands at some point today, Montenegro on Thursday, and San Marino on Friday.

Any dates from Italy and France?

France and Italy still need to come out at some point too… hmm, they’ve been quiet.

  3. John says:

Minor correction – the winner of the televote in Israel was Shany Zamir, not Ron Weinreich 🙂

    What were Romania thinking?
They gave us the biggest reason for banning public phone votes since we inflicted Scooch on the world!
