Taking it right down to the wire, the UK entrant for Eurovision 2013 will be announced by Ken Bruce on March 18th.
There’ll be a certain amount of angst now from fans of the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest with the news that Radio 2’s Ken Bruce will make the announcement of the BBC’s chosen performer for Eurovision on air. With a number of BBC properties on TV that could make the announcement (such as the One Show), many fans are thinking this is a way of hiding the artist.
It’s certainly in keeping with Kens show, which has the first UK play of a lot of music, but perhaps isn’t the glorious TV spectacle that some other nations are making during the National Final season.
What we at ESC Insight are sure on is that the BBC will be remembering the huge amount of social media comments they generated during 2012’s announcement, and will be looking to replicate that again. We also have a sneaky suspicion that this year the focus is going to be on high UK viewing figures for the show in May, which needs a PR budget targeting the UK audience, as opposed to going for a win in the Contest – which means the PR would need to around Europe, and not to the broadcaster’s home audience.

My God. It’s going to be Lily Allen, isn’t it.
