The big weekend news is that we have the seventh entry for Eurovision 2013 – Denmark’s Emmelie de Forest with ‘Only Teardrops’, but there was a lot more going on than Dansk MGP.
This Week’s Results
With impressive viewing figures, Denmark’s audience broke the jury deadlock and sent Emmelie de Forest to the final, with Mohamed Ali’s ‘Unbreakable’ a close second place.
Finland finished their heats with another two confirmed finalists. Krista Siegfrids and Arion will join Diandra and Mikael Saari, while the last two places will be fought out this weekend in the semi-final / andra chanson style round.
It was a double bill of semi-finals in Iceland, as RUV decided on the line-up for this weekend’s final. Who made it? GOing through on the voting were Birgitta Haukdal, Svavar Knútur Kristinsson & Hreindís Ylva Garðarsdóttir Hólm, Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson, Jógvan Hansen & Stefanía Svavarsdóttir, Unnur Eggertsdóttir, and Haraldur Reynisson. The wildcard place went to last year’s third place singer, Magni Ásgeirsson.
Iceland’s 2009 representative Yohanna was eliminated on the Friday night, while the closest singer to Klinnsman that Iceland has, Erna Hronn, was knocked out on Saturday.
Norway was the last major National Final event, and the second heat in MGP saw the familiar name of Alexander Rybak as a songwriter. Annsofi sung the track, ‘I’m With You’ and it made it through to the final, along with Fjellfolk, and Margaret Berger.
Thoughts from Denmark’s Dansk MGP.
The ESC Insight team attended MGP this past weekend, in some rather snowy conditions (or what the Danes would probably call ‘a nice winter’s day’), and we’d like to thank our hosts DR for the facilities and opportunity to cover the event.
As always, the Danes put on a fantastic show with some wonderful staging, and while online opinion on the quality of the ten finalists is mixed (and let’s be honest, everyone is going to have a different opinion) the commitment to the show has made this one of the marque events on Danish television in the 21st century.
Terry Vision also caught up with the Eurovision winners of the past, and once we’ve edited those videos you can find out what he got up to, and who he danced with.
