The weekends are starting to get busy with the Eurovision Song Contest national finals. We’ve got the results from this weekend, and what’s happening over the next seven days!
This Week’s Results
Finland’s first heat saw two acts qualify directly through to the final, the haunting tones of Mikael Saari, and the more pop sound of Diandra. Three acts will go the semi-final (essentially a second chance round) and the y are Iina Salin, Last Panda, and Rautakoura. And one act is sent home from last place. That would be Iiari Hamalainen.
The results from Norway have raised a few eyebrows with a ‘that’s not a normal Eurovision sound’ mash-up of Death metal and Opera winning the semi-final in the form of Gromth and Emil Solli-Tangen (yes, he’s Didrik’s younger brother). Also through are Vidar Busk and Datarock. Lone boy with a guitar on the stage Tom Hugo failed to proceed, much to the horror of many watching the stream.
Mystery Song Theatre 3000 continues in Azerbaijan, as we add the name of Leyla ‘no relation’ Aliyeva to the roster for the final.
A couple of song previews
A number of broadcaster have put their National Final songs officially online. Finland are pushing their songs through Spotify, while Austria, Iceland, Latvia, and Hungary, have streaming versions available from their websites. And of course the second a song airs somewhere, YouTube will be a few minutes behind.

Once Datarock’s lead started singing I was reminded of Damo Suzuki. Alas, a perfect opportunity for Apocalypse glory squandered.
