No More Quiet Weekends, Here Come The Nationals Written by on January 14, 2013

Did you enjoy the weekend that’s just past? Quiet and relaxing? Good, because from now on, every weekend has Eurovision action somewhere in Europe till we have our 39 songs for Malmo.

That doesn’t mean the weekend has had no Eurovision news. We’ve at least one winner, lots of new music, and a diary that’s starting to rapidly fill up.

Weekend Results

Just one person standing on a podium this week, and it’s a heat winner at Azerbaijan’s Mystery Science Theatre 3000 Milli Secim Turu. The third weekly winner is Fərəh Hadıyeva, who joins Vüqar Muradov and Rəvanə Əliyeva in the Grand Final, which right now feels a lifetime away but is probably some time late in February.

Song Previews From Two Broadcasters Online

Iceland has released the twelve songs up for the two National Semi-finals. Six in each sown, with three qualifiers from each and broadcaster RUV reserves the right for a wild card selection. You can listen to the tracks online from the RUV Songva Keppnin website.

Austria have a five-act strong final, but each act will have to sing twice – once with their own song and the potential entry, and a second time with a Eurovision classic. Nothing far away from the mainstream here, they’re all winning songs and known to the Eurovision crowd (and those tracks may prove some fodder for Roy’s Apocalypse). The original tracks are online and you can listen online at Eurovision-Austria.

Coming Up This Week

  • It’s week four of Azerbaijani’s MST, running Monday through Friday night.
  • Three events to note for Thursday 17th… Malmo receives the ‘Host City Seal’ and conducts the semi-fianl draw, which will be streamed on svt.ee/melodifestivalen; press accreditation opens on eurovision.tv; and the first semi-final in Finland takes place.
  • Saturday 19th is the first of three semi-finals taking place in Norway as part of MGP.
