Mr Lukashenko, Is That Belarus’ Final Answer? Written by on December 10, 2012

We have the first performer and song for Malmo, Alyona Lanskaya for Belarus singing Rhythym of Love. Now let’s see if President Alexander Lukashenko steps in as he did last year and we have to revisit Belarus in the next weekend round-up!

Weekend Results

As noted above, Belarus held their National Final, which once more saw Alyona Lanskaya win the ticket to Eurovision. Last year it was taken from her following voting irregularities and handed to Litesound, so we’re hoping that the the members of off-the-beat Nuteki have their passports ready. Lansakay topped the televoting and the jury votes, giving here top marks in the selection process.

Lithuania‘s first semi-final continues the process of revealing the televote on the night, with the jury vote to come midweek. In the three top positions for the final so far are:

  • War In The Wardrobe, by Gerai Gerai & Miss Sheep
  • Used to Be, by Neringa Šiaudikytė
  • Closer, by Elvina Milkauskaitė

Coming Up This Week…

  • Tuesday December 11th: Latvia reveal shortlist of names.
  • Saturday December 15th: Switzerland‘s National Final (Die Grosse Entscheidungs Show).
  • Saturday December 15th: Lithuania, 2nd National Semi Final.
  • Sunday December 16th: Belgium, National Song Selection for Roberto Bellarosa (broadcast via VivaCitie Radio).

Just to give you all a heads up, the ESC Insight team will be travelling to Kreuzlingen on the Swiss-German border to see if the Swiss really will send a man dressed as a Monkey or the Salvation Army to Malmo… or one of the eight alternatives. While it’s an easy enough flight for Ewan and Terry to manage, we’re still not quite sure how Sam is going to cope given she leaves Minnesota on the Friday night, and has to be back at work in the US on Monday morning…
