Download the Insight/Xtra Eurovision App Written by on May 14, 2013 | 1 Comment

In partnership with The Lab (powered by O2 Telefonica), ESC Insight and EscXtra have a new iOS application for Eurovision fans, where you can listen to a live commentary from backstage, and share your thoughts on the songs with a simple thumbs up or thumbs down button and worm.

What does our mobile app do?

We’re in the process of firing out the press release that you can read below, but here’s the highlights.

  • You’ll get a live commentary from the team in the press room (and it’s not the same as our long running Alternative Commentary MP3, which you can find here).
  • During each Eurovision show you can hit the green thumbs up button, or the red thumbs down button, to share your view on the song, and the worm will show the combined thoughts of everyone using the app.
  • Its a free download from the Apple App Store. Head to bit.ly/esccommentary to download the app for your iOS device. Or you can search for ‘ESC Commentary‘ in the store.

Join us for the two semi finals and the Grand Final for a unique Eurovision experience from two of the leading Eurovision community web sites.

It does not matter where you are where you are in the world, you can watch the live broadcast of Europe’s favourite television show on May 14th, 16th and 18th, and then ‘delay’ the commentary in the application by a few seconds or more to match up with the visuals from the worlds longest running competitive song contest.

“Eurovision fans around the world have been following the build up to the Contest since Loreen won in Baku last May,” points out Ewan Spence from ESC Insight. “Now with the help of The Lab, our community can all share the final steps of the journey to find this year’s winner.”

Alongside the views of lead commentator Spence and the team of Eurovision experts, users of the ESC Commentary app will be able to share their thoughts from their iOS device during every song with an interactive thumbs up or thumbs down button, which is shared with everyone using the app.

“We’re really happy that we have an app for fans, by fans, to bring people’s opinions at home outside of the second screen, and share it around the world,” says Luke Fisher, Chief Editor of EscXtra.com. “It’s a concept that has been used in a number of National Finals, so it’s exciting to see this implemented during Eurovision itself.”

The app has been developed by ‘The Lab’, an innovation team powered by O2. Set up in January 2011, The Lab tests new ideas & concepts fast, in an open environment. “We’re very excited to be involved with the teams from ESC Insight and EscXtra helping to bring their unique take on proceedings to the masses via our audio streaming platform,” said Terence Eden, Product Manager atThe Lab.
