A joint press conference between the EBU and Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR has confirmed that Basel will be the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.
Following Nemo’s victory under the Swiss flag in Malmö, the broadcaster has picked up the traditional baton to organise the following year’s Song Contest. This is the 69th Edition of the Song Contest, and the third time it will host the Contest.
The first was in Lugano 1956 and the inaugural Contest. Switzerland won that Contest, but the 1957 Contest was held in Frankfurt, West Germany. It is widely believed that German broadcasters ARD and HR were given this opportunity by virtue of a second-place finish, but with the jury scores lost, there is no way to confirm this.
The second was in Lausanne 1989 following Celine Dion’s victory the year before in Dublin. Following her appearance at the Summer Olympic opening ceremony, many will be hoping for a subsequent role in Basel.
