We Ask The Citizens Of Malmö: What Should We Do In May? Written by on May 1, 2024

Whilst in Malmö for the Eurovision Allocation Draw and the first heat of Melodifestivalen at the depths of Swedish winter our Ben Robertson asked local residents one tip they have for Eurovision fans to do in the city in May. Here is that list.

Marie Åkesson

Head of Hospitality for Eurovision 2024 from Malmö Stad.

I think there will be so much to do here, with lots of activities in Eurovision Village and so on. I think that people will need a little bit of piece and quiet and I think you should go to Slottsträdgårdens café that is a little oasis here in Malmö, fantastic garden and outdoor seating, I know they have fantastic kanelbullar but also their lunch is fantastic. As well as that you should visit the Ribersborgs Kallbadhus, the cold water swimming pool. If you haven’t swam outside before you have to try it.

The sea is so close by, just a few minutes away. Take a bike or take a walk, just walk by the sea and eat really good ice cream and even hanging around the skate park is a really cool environment. My favourite ice cream place is in the Saluhallen, the food court, and is called Favvo glass.

Carina Nilsson

Chair of Malmö City Council

I think if you come to Malmö in May you should go to the beach, Ribersborgsstranden where you can swim and take a sauna next to the sea. Welcome!

Ellen

Restaurant owner of Far i hatten, based within Folkets Park which is the 2024 Eurovision Village

One thing you must do is of course come to Får i hatten because it has a great vibe and Folkets Park where the Eurovision Village is. We will have a lot of DJs and dancing and are pretty involved in everything! I love Eurovision!

My tip would be to go and visit Moriska Paviljongen in the middle of Folkets Park. Get something to eat or drink, and sit in the amazing garden outside, really really nice.

My recommendation is Slottsträdgården café, near both the park and the ocean. I love the mud cake (kladdkaka) and the cinnamon bun (kanelbulle), everyone needs to try those in Sweden.

My favourite thing to do in Malmö is probably going through the city and up Drottninggatan our main shopping street and browsing through the different stores, for example LUSH which is really nice.

Therese

We have a special place that isn’t everywhere else in the world. It’s called Ribban (Ribersborgsstranden) and it’s our beach and there is also a nudist beach and a dog swim too – that’s a special thing here in Malmö in May.

Robin

I would recommend getting a large beer at any of the bars around Lilla Torg. My favourite of them is ‘Mussen’/The Moose Head.

My tip is to visit the Malmö Museum, originally one of the strongest forts to defend the city. Inside there are numerous exhibits including an aquarium.

This is an unusual tip but I think you should all visit our parks, we have beautiful green areas within the city. My favourite is Slottsparken.

Isabel

I would recommend for them to go swimming in the ocean, it will be a bit cold but I like it that way, I’d swim either in Västra Hamnen or at Ribban.

Maria Huston

Delegation Host at Eurovision 2024

There are so many things to see! The Öresund bridge (Europe’s longest road/rail bridge, if you didn’t cross it on your way to Malmö), Turning Torso, Historic Malmo Castle, all the pretty parks, Lilla Torg with all the restaurants, Ribersborgs bathhouse, Malmo town library, West Harbour, the sky bar at Malmo Live Hotel and last but not least Folkets Park, the Eurovision Village.
