Congrats to Sweden, a most deserved winner. And congrats to German vote giver Anke Engelke for her little dig at Azerbaijani civil rights, or lack thereof. But what exactly happened to the often (falsely) claimed Scandinavian block voting? Yes, we vote for one another … When we have a good song. Denmark and Norway didn’t really last night and suffered the consequences, including much to the Danish announcer’s utter disgust the nul points from Sweden to Denmark. That would never ever have happened between, say, Rumania and Moldova, or Serbia and Fyrom, now would it?
The voting was particularly political last night amongst the Eastern Europeans (it can be denied all they want but we know its true) but I’m delighted that Sweden trounced everyone else and won!! By a landslide!! She was amazing and the song is the strongest out of what has been a rather weak sort of year. Euphoria could stand the test of time. Hope its a smash hit all across Europe and can’t wait to see ESC 2013 Live from Sweden!! If I remember the Swedish always put on a great show and at least we don’t have to worry about their lack of human rights!! For the first time I many years, I 100% agree that the right person won.
My attempt to watch the contest on the SVT player after I’d finished work at Ullevi last night didn’t quite work out (see my post re. Terry Vision and Nina Zilli) but we had the contest on in the press room and one or two photo desks may have had to wait longer than usual for their speedway pics. The Speedway Grand Prix also resulted in a Swedish victory (Freddie Lindgren) and as the strains of the national anthem died away guess what the Gothenburg crowd started singing (quite badly)… It was frankly a “Euphoric” night for Sweden all round and it gave me my first ever valid opportunity to mention Eurovision in a photo report about a speedway meeting… Can’t help feeling disappointed about Jonsi and Greta’s result though. Iceland deserved better. Note to British newspaper editors – Aftonbladet had 12 pages of ESC coverage today, Expressen had 11. If the Hump had won…no. Exactly.
‘Linda Woodruffe’ and Terry Vision for hosts next year I think ladies and gentlemen! Thanks for all the coverage, articles and podcasts and especially for the often hilarious ‘Terry Vision Meets …’ videos. Some artists were a little unsure I thought, but some just took to Terry right away. And what some of us wouldn’t give to rub … noses with Tooji! 🙂
Thanks for all the coverage to the whole team. I’m looking forward to Eurovision 2013 and possibly the return of Lynda Woofruff.
It was a very good year. And you guys made even more fun, thank you.
Great job, thanks, people! You and the ESCxtra team were a fantastic double act. Have safe flights home.
Probably the new arena, Swedbank, rather than Globen. See https://www.escdaily.com/sweden-new-venue-for-melodifestivalen-2013-final/, where ESCToday reports that SVT will be holding next year’s Melodifestivalen final there.
I hope to see you i Sverige, Ewan!
Glad Sweden won, can’t wait to see how good a show they put on next year.
Thanks for all the hard work to the ESC Insight team – you’ve made following this contest fun!

A great final, and THANK YOU to the escinsight team for your coverage. It was much appreciated and enjoyed here in No-Eurovision-Land, CA.
OK, so who’s going to do the Swedish Chef version of “Euphoria”?

Thanks for the thoughts David. We’ll need to sit down in the office and think what Terry can do between Contests!
