Have just had the opportunity to watch the final on playback having failed to find Radio 6 International after much dial twiddling while parked at a Service Station on the M40.

My first impressions are that it was a very polished show with production values that wouldn’t have been out of place at Adult Eurovision.

On the evidence of what I saw the strongest packages on the night were from Malta and Georgia (in the latter case perhaps overcoming the mediocre staging) -with honourable mentions to FYR Macedonia, France and Poland.

I suspect Poland’s victory was sealed before a note was sung. A system that allows you to vote for your own country is fundamentally flawed. Not to say that Poland wasn’t a worthy winner. I thought the dancing, the camerawork and the most of all the black and white footage gave the song an edginess that the video version was lacking.

So, well done Poland and well done to all the young competitors who served make this year’s JESC a memorable one.

Oh and well done to the ESC Insight Team.
