Again, with the benefit of being very far outside the bubble my thoughts from last night:

Non – qualifers: Belgium was a song that I didn’t “get” until last night. Last night it really came up in my expectation. Unfortunately though it went from 3/10 to 6/10 – that doesn’t get you a vote. Belarus’ ending was grotesque – and to put it in context I spent the hour before the contest shoving rotting compost around the garden. Surprised at the Azer/Armenia/Greece non-qualification but then who isn’t.

Qualifers: Mixed feelings for Ireland, delighted to see them back in the final but I fear this will end 20th – 26th and I’d rather RTÉ get a slap in the face for sending what is an average song in this years contest. We shall see. I think Ireland came in 8th – 10th in the public vote but unsure how juries would have ranked it.

Cyprus probably won the televote last night. Israel is clearly challenging. Lithuania was the absolutely stunner from last night, I would have given it 4/10 prior to last night where it shot up to a 8/10 for me and into my top 5 for the night.

I think the one country not being talked about enough is Sweden. I think they are utterly underpriced at 16/1. I really think they’re going to build up quite a bit of momentum following tomorrow nights semi and are a safe bet for a top 5 finish again. I’m not saying they are a sure fire winner but they just cannot be ruled out.

Does Ellie realise how meme-ready she herself was when the 1000+ viewers of ESCYounited’s live stream could see her boogieing in the background during the semi 1 jury final?
