    Hi.

I’ve just finished it’s the podcast. It’s been great so far and love the content.

But there is some constructive criticism, in the interview space. While it’s perfectly ok to give softball questions to the kids (because they are kids and it would be unreasonable and unfair to give them hard questions. Given what is going on, in terms of the contest), you get a pass on that. Lisa in particular doesn’t get a pass on the interview with Jon Ola Sand, with the soft questions and in effect being a pap piece, in the vain of a tabloid newspaper. I would of expected something along the lines of being relaxed and friendly, but at the same time ask some tough questions and don’t let this turn into PR and spin for the EBU, with the fans being the mouthpiece.

If I wanted to go and get tabloid news, there are other sites who work in that space. I just feel disappointed that insight has lost sight of why it’s a unique place to visit. I’ve been listening to the available back catalogue and there are some gems. When it has come to interviews and reviews (I’m thinking Juke box jury as an example).

While this is not saying that you are a bad person and should only be behind the keyboard. It is intended to be some constructive criticism of this particular interview.

  2. Hi Matthew, I’m not sure if you meant for this comment to come across as being quite as confrontational as it does?

One of the things that makes ESC Insight unique is that we maintain good working relationships with people by being polite and friendly, and because of this we get taken seriously when we want serious answers to serious questions.

We’re currently at Junior, which is thankfully scandal free and going really nicely, so it’s reasonable for Jon Ola to be pleased with the contest and say so. We are of course, very interested in Young Musicians, because we’re obviously going to be in a great geographical position to cover it and it’s a big deal to get a Eurovision event in the UK.

Also, I don’t know if you picked up on the subtext of the ‘Georgia met all their deadlines’ comments, but I thought that was quite revealing after all our adventures in the run up to Kyiv. I wished it was a video interview so I could have seen his face.

What else would you like to know from Jon Ola, next time we speak to him?

  3. Ewan Spence says:

Matthew, any specific editorial concerns you may have can always be emailed direct to myself or Sharleen. That said I’ve not yet seen any other reports on why Belarus was announced early.

  4. Matthew Osullivan says:

@Ellie. While it wasn’t intended to be confrontational, I can see as I read it back (and after taking a step back) it does come across as such. I apologise for being that way. It was ment to be some constructive criticism and it get derailed.

@Ewan, you are are on the mark and I was in the wrong.
