Eurovision Insight Podcast: Junior Juke Box Jury #1 Written by on November 15, 2015 | 4 Comments

Andrew Main and Donald McNaughton join Ewan Spence for the first of three Juke Box Jury shows this week coming from Sofia, Bulgaria, and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015.

Starting off with an introduction to Junior Eurovision for those new to the Contest, it’s the usual miss of discussion, analysis, and the calls of ‘Hit, Miss, or Maybe.’ After all, even though it’s a Contest for the younger generation, the EBU still keep score… and so will we.

    My view on each song

    Personal :

    Serbia – Maybe
    Netherlands (The) – Maybe
    Bulgaria – Miss
    Georgia – Miss
    Australia – Miss
    Armenia – Hit

    What my head says :

    Serbia – Hit
    Netherlands (The) – Miss
    Bulgaria – Maybe
    Georgia – Maybe
    Australia – Maybe
    Armenia – Hit

  2. “Give them a sweetie and they would sing for you” – it is comments like that (no matter how unintentionally said) that makes a lot of Eurovision fans uneasy about JESC…

The major bonus for me as a long-term ESC fan is the use of national language – how nice is it to hear anything OTHER than English!

To my 48 year old ears:

    Child-like: Serbia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia

    Adult-like: The Netherlands, Australia

So to me, I prefer The Netherlands and Australia but I won’t be one of the voters, will I?

  3. Esceire says:

Cant believe the panel fell for that plastic rubbish from Australia, I can agree with a certain Youtuber that its like having a plastic bag over my head.

  4. Ben R. says:

16 year old here, so I’m at the upper end of the songs target age. My opinions:

Serbia- I want to say top-5, but still unsure. Certainly a beautiful song that will be high with juries. Maybe, but at the higher end (4th-6th).

The Netherlands- Good vocals, but dull. Miss.

    Bulgaria- Miss.

Georgia- I want to hate it, then I remember that I’m singing the chorus in my head. Hit.

Australia- Already on my iPod. Still hope it doesn’t sweep the points at JESC though. It is a great song, but if it wins Junior, it shows that the contest can be “adult song sung by someone under 16”. End of the day, it’s a hit.

Armenia- Retro pop done well. If Georgia can won with their 2011 song, this can do the same. Hit.
