Hungary – maybe for me, but I think it will be a miss

Montenegro – total miss for me, but I think it will be a maybe

    Armenia – same as Montenegro…

Netherlands – totally agree with you…I don’t see this as very appealing – maybe with me, but I think it can be a hit like Kuula was. Who really predicted Kuula would do that well in the final?

Ukraine – not a hit with me due to ‘Lion King’ thing, but she’s beautiful and has a great voice. Yes, I see this a top 10 in the final, but not my piece of cake.

  2. Kylie says:

I have it on very good authority (i.e. my Euro Dummies colleague Nicolas) that Anouk is a very good live performer, and she should do very well with the juries at least. If she does make it to the final, you’ll be surprised with the final result… 😛

As for Ukraine, I’ll be very shocked if she isn’t top 10 at least.

  3. Stephen Colville says:

I could have put money on Ewan having a go at Netherlands. He always goes after the fan favourites. I don’t see why you guys are so harsh on this. It’s not out of date at all, and I think Anouk’s show will be great and I fully expect a top 10 finish in the final. Probably just short of winning though.

    As for the rest :

Hungary – Worst song of the contest, goes right through me. Being before Norway killed the small chance it had of qualifying. Miss.

Montenegro – Barely even counts as music. Horrendous garbage. Miss.

Armenia – Toy Planet and Truth were better choices, but this is solid. Has the complex structure and melodies of metal while not being as heavy. The Iommi influence is heavily felt here. Maybe.

Ukraine – Overrated, but a very good attempt. Zlata has a great voice, the song has a surprising kick to it. The new ending is a problem though. Hit.

  4. Kevin says:

How do you know where people are coming from who bet on certain songs? Anyway, I don’t think people expect Anouk to do well because she had a hit in Scandinavia years ago. People expect her to do well because she is an amazing live performer. Arguably the best we (the Netherlands) have. No one here thinks she’s huge internationally, so I don’t really get your argument about not winning international awards. And fans seem to really like the song.

HUNGARY – It has grown on me, but I still don’t really like it. I think it will just qualify and finish somewhere in the bottom 6.

MONTENEGRO – Hated it first, really like it now. I think it can actually qualify. It has a great draw as well.

ARMENIA – For me the worst out of all 39. They failed before and without the Netherlands and Belgium voting in this semi I think this will fail as well.

THE NETHERLANDS – This could very well be my favourite Durch entry ever. I’m sure we’ll qualify and I think it has an outside chance to win, but it will probably finish somewhere between 4-10. As one of you said, you can’t really mess up the staging for this.

UKRAINE – I love this as well. I hope it wipes the floor with Russia. I can see this win and it will suprise me if this is not in the top 7.

  5. Harriet Krohn says:

Hungary – is one of my absolute favourites this year, but I can totally understand why most people don’t see it that way. I agree it will have a hard time qualifying, but it’s one of very few songs from this year I’ll still be listening to in the futre.

Montenegro – I’m surprised how much I like this weird song. I believe it’s Montenegro’s best shot at qualifying ever, and they might just do it.

    Armenia – unbelievably boring!

The Netherlands – I really like the song, but I also think it’s being overrated by many. It might well because so many of us, me included, would really like to see the Netherlands qualify and do well again. Considering that there are more die-hard fans watching the semis than the final (relatively speaking), I think it will have a good chance of qualifying, but my guess is we won’t be seeing Anouk in the top ten on the Saturday, maybe not even in the top half.

Ukraine – the Lion King thing really bugs me … I very much hate the cheesy Disney music that everyone seems to love, and what does African have to do with the Ukraine …?! That said, the voice is great and it’s the Ukraine, so it will do really well. But it’s not my cup of tea.

  6. Shevek says:

    Netherlands
    Hungary
    Ukraine
    Armenia
    Montenegro

I love both the Hungarian and the Dutch songs. Ukraine is the theme song of the Lion King in an alternative reality. The song is weird and it seems to have the hiccups. Zlata is a very good live singer. I like parts of the song.

Armenia brings us a grower. I would not rule Gor out just yet.

Montenegro has a modern song that must have a good live performance to be successful. Do not use the concept used in the video, if you know what’s good for you. LOL

P.S.: I also think that Zlata can win the whole thing.

  7. Matthias says:

Netherlands – is this the first ESC song about a bird disease? but honestly, for me a very boring song, and the chorus remind me a bit of the musical-movies from the 50´s.

Hungary – not my kind of song, this song dosen´t go anywhere, and for sure not out of the Semifinal.

    Armenia – boring stuff

Montenegro – for sure one of the worst songs this year

Ukraine – is this really a song? for me it is more like a score for a image-movie of a country or something else. “seights and sounds of ………”
and has this song even a chorus? all i can remember is “my gravity, my gravity”
for my taste this song is too overloaded, too many elements, but nothing real stand out to remember.
It will do well, but i really dislike it

  8. Martin says:

This week’s Juke Box Jury just goes to show that 2013 is a REALLY BAD year. Not one among the five songs today is of final quality, despite Ukraine having the support to ensure they do get through.

While I would like to go to Kiev, the Ukraine song uses some of the same sounds/instrumentation as last year’s Ukrainian entry. To me, they has lost their way over the last few years with some very poor entries.

  9. Chris says:

They held a Juke Box jury on the other side of Bell St from me and I missed out… cries.

Netherlands – I want this to succeed too much. Fingers crossed; hit.
    Hungary – Boring. miss
    Ukraine – Hit. could win
    Armenia – see Hungary
Montenegro – Hit; big surprise. Best song from the Balkans this year.
