I have also updated the YouTube playlist to reflect the updated chart – click the following link if you’d like YouTube to play down the entire chart for you, no.100 to no.1.

Coming up in July… the top 100 Semi-Final songs – those who never made it through to the Grand Finals – it will be interesting to see who is the most successful, and worst, of the rejected bunch of songs that everyone’s forgotten!  That is, until I remind you of some of the pain we were subjected to!

  1. eurovision fan uk says:

it might not be stockholm next year, could be gothenburg or malmo

  2. Ewan Spence says:

Given the respective stadium capacities AND number of hotel rooms, we’re struggling to see it outside of Stockholm. Maybe Malmo will get the consolation of the MF final?

  3. Steven says:

Point taken eurovision fan uk, but I meant this as a figurative ‘Stockholm’. But I do think it will actually be Sweden’s capital for the reasons Ewan has highlighted.

  4. Elke says:

Nice list! How do you work it out – what decides who gets which position? All the best &c

  5. Steven says:

It’s based on percentages Elke – I take the total score they could have got (for 2012 41×12 – as you can’t vote for yourself) and then divide what they actually scored by the total. This was done for every song from 1957 (as 1956’s results are not known).

  6. Anders says:

    Very interesting voting there.

I notice the lack of both Waterloo and Volare. Not that these songs absolutely have to be in every ranking list, but since they are among the best known entries of all time, it’s a bid strange.

  7. Ewan Spence says:

It’s worth pointing out that this chart is not subjective, unlike say a TV Top Ten programme that’s looking for the crowd pleasers.
