Eurovision Insight Podcast: Ultimate Juke Box Jury Heat 12 Written by on June 14, 2011 | 2 Comments

And after a break of close to three months, it’s time to return to our quest of finding the Ultimate Winning Eurovision Song of all time (or at least up to 2010, because I’m still not sure where to pop in Running Scared).

Anyway, if you’re one of those who joined the podcast during Dusseldorf, you can find the previous 11 heats archived here or on the RSS feed. Two judges, this week it’s David Elder and Andrew Main, join host Ewan Spence to rate four previous Eurovision songs as hit, miss or maybe. The winner goes through to the semi-finals, the other three are out of the judging.

Hooray for the return of my favorite podcast!!! You guys are stars in my book. As for Russia 2008, as far as I recall, “Believe” was not awarded that many points from old Europe. I think you’re right: way too pretentious and really rather calculating.

This is apropos nothing at all and be free to interrupt me if you’ve heard this before:

I came across a little tidbit the other day that just blew my mind. A joining of two opposites, you may say. Anyone familiar with Los Angeles of the 70s and 80s will know what I’m talking about. Cal Worthington was, and still is, a television pitchman legend, hawking his “Worthington Ford” used car dealership on late-late night television for decades. “I’ll stand on my head; I’ll eat a bug,” the Oklahoma-born dealer would drawl, if only you would come down to Bellflower Blvd. in Long Beach and buy one of his oldsmobe cutlasses for $2599..

Now where on Earth are you going with this? I hear you ask. Well, the other day I learned that good old Cal, now a spry 91, just this January took as his fourth wife the lovely Anna Mjöll. Yes, the blonde 30-something songbird who so memorably performed “Sjúbídú” for Iceland in 1996, finishing a respectable 13. “Go see Cal,” was the nightly refrain from the redoubtable Mr. Worthington; I guess Anna did just that.

I simply can’t `believe` what people were saying about Dima Bilan. It was the stand out song for me and loved the performance.

In fact, I like his two songs so much I named my cat `Dimara` after him!
