So, what’s happening in the world of Eurovision with just 360 days to go until we have our winner?
How about working out just how many people watched the Contest from Dusseldorf? Or what Jedward’s PR people would like us to mention this week? We’ve not even started yet, because ESC Ireland’s “Kate Ryan Award” need to be voted on, and we can’t forget the 55th Birthday Party.
And then there’s the small matter of sorting out Junior Eurovision as well, as Russia does a Switzerland to be the first country to announce their entry – Ekaterina Ryabova, singing Kak Romeo i Dzhulyetta.

I’m no expert, but that Russian song title clearly means ‘Shit Romeo and Juliet’ in many languages. Will this be the first time that a JESC entry has offered a dual critique of Dire Straits and Shakespeare in the one song?

I really don’t think Junior Eurovision will happen this year, they need a good 10-12 countries to take part ad 9 is awful. JESC has had it’s day, they need to reinvent it to make it more appealing to the West. I also think that the cost of getting out to Armenia will have put a lot of countries off participating.
I think that for various EBU organisational and training issues we will see JESC go ahead this year, although the interval act last year with all the previous winners would have been a fine swan-song. The main issue for JESC I think is simple – none of the Big Five carry the show, so it doesn’t have a financial champion. Sweden, bless them, isn’t quite enough.
Yeah…just for the record, I still prefer Anke’s version over Mika’s…just sayin’!
