Thank you ESC Insight for the all the good work you do for the community. I always look forward to your articles and podcasts, especially Jukebox Jury, and see things beyond the conventions of the contest in a new perspective every time you tackle it.

Wishing you guys the best and more power.

Thanks on a Tuesday morning for helping with post ESC anti-climax and depression. A good compelling listen, as ever.

I knew Alexander Rybak had been ill, but hadn’t realised he had been SO ILL for all of two weeks. I think he disguised it really well and still think his performance was energetic and committed. It was still a mystery how he won the semi final and ended 15th in the final. And still a mystery how his odds began to plummet so soon on the Thursday after the semi-final finished. The song was vacuous and empty but, “that’s how you sell a song” is how this will be remembered. Hats off to him!

And well done Michael Schulte. Top song, top four finish, made me a lot of money at the bookies backing it at longs odds in February to come top four.

    Italy’s televote score? WTF???!!!

  3. Ewan Spence says:

Mark, thanks for comments. Italy has struggled with jury support for the last few years, that may be something worth investigating over the summer!

  4. Ewan Spence says:

James, thank you for listening, we’re not going anywhere over the summer (but might have a slightly slower schedule!).

  5. Marc says:

This was worth the wait and with this 40 minutes, I feel the contest is well and truly over. Thank you for all the super coverage. It was my 50th successive Eurovision as a TV viewer, and I’m sorry to say that overall, I did not enjoy the event so much this year. Three reasons: 1) I really liked the UK song from the start, but it was sneered at throughout even from inside the Eurovision bubble. 2) The ghost of Sobral came back to haunt the contest with his own level of snobbery. Not to mention a rambling interval act ending with a reminder that his was the only “real” music. I hope we never see him at the contest again. 3) My forays into social media forums left me scarred by the level of pure hatred I observed, particularly from the ex-Yugs. I think the main fan sites need to watch more closely for this.
In any case, thanks again to ESCInsight and the magical mix of people brought together for each of these podcasts.

Marc, thanks for your kind words to the Insight team, and glad our ‘season closer’ was worth the wait! We’ll be here through the summer with more features, Eurovision Castaways, and discussion – but perhaps at a slightly slower pace!

  7. David says:

To echo the comments above, thank you to the entire ESC Insight team for another excellent year’s coverage. As ever, you’ve managed to give us a combination of nerdy trivia, thinky heft, and a strong desire to savour Vikki’s shortbread. (Will she be exporting to the USA?) Congrats on getting through the experience safely and healthily – and enjoy some well-earned downtime over the off-season.

  8. Ewan Spence says:

Scottish food and US customs rarely agree with each other – a lesson I know from experience! Thanks for your thoughts, teh whole team are resting up as best we can!

  9. Eurojock says:

Your podcast was just the tonic for my post Eurovision hangover. Thanks to all the team for your wonderful coverage. I look forward to Ellie’s analysis of her spreadsheets, so I’ll leave my observations on this year’s contest until then – other than this one. After Moldova had performed on Saturday night, I enthusiastically turned to my wife and said ‘How about that for staging?’ To which I got the deadpan response, ‘I thought it was a bit amateurish, actually.’ Ah, well.

  10. Shai says:

Thank you for the time and efforts you invest in this. As always, it was a pleasure listening to your comments through the whole season.
I hung around here also during off season ahd enjoy the articles you publish through the whole year.

Keep up the good work 😀

  11. Clare says:

Thank you guys for another awesome year of podcasts and articles! It truly enhances my Eurovision experience.
