  1. Eurojock says:

Cyprus – My initial impressions were that they had gone for something similar to last year – more rhythmic than melodic – and could suffer the same fate. But as Luke points out this is probably more ethnic and accessible. Nevertheless it has a mid-table at best feel. MAYBE

Malta – There are better songs -but like Armenia last year, this has the potential to come alive on stage. The line ‘Gianluca is my name’ caught my attention also. Top 5 potential. HIT

Ireland- Ireland 2017 is last year’s well – Ireland. Like Albania, the production values on this leave something to be desired. MISS for me but then again I under-rated Ireland last year – so it might make mid-table.

Armenia – This year’s Bulgaria from 2016. I find the song or probably more likely the ‘Boomerang’ refrain annoying. I saw a video of Misha singing all the other entries’ songs. He wasn’t note perfect (on all the other songs) but he exuded personality. I agree with Ewan that this will attract more adult than online votes but I think it could contend for a top five place. HIT

Italy – Not only did I think Italy had sent the same song as last year, I thought they had sent the same artist, who had grown six inches in the intervening period. The song lacks Dear Mom’s charm, so unless Ewan finds a way of voting for it several thousand times online. MISS
