So Ireland have gone for another boy band singer with Louis Walsh connections. Looks like we’re set for a repeat of the type of mediocre formulaic pop number that Nicky Byrne brought last year.

  2. Ewan Spence says:

Would it be cynical to say that a repeat of last year’s results would be better than I expect?

  3. Cathal says:

@Eurojack you obviously weren’t listening to the LLS interview so. Clearly said they were going for a ballad along the lines of Sam Smith.

  4. Eurojock says:

Cathal, a Sam Smith style ballad may be the aspiration, but with Louis Walsh at the helm the reality might be more akin Westlife’s ‘I’m Already There’!

  5. Cathal says:

The last time Louis Walsh was involved in an Irish act this millennium they got there highest placing and were 2nd in the bookie’s prior to the final (which for an Irish act is huge). It’s quite interesting that the year Louis was involved with Jedward they did brilliant and the year he wasn’t they flopped…

  6. Ewan Spence says:

Jedward worked the PR hard in Dusseldorf, and got on the radar of every show and bit of courage looking for an angle. that didn’t work the following year. I’d suggest that the Jedward novelty had far more to do with it than Louis Walsh… because he’s managed to promote Hometown so well these last few years on the international stage.

  7. Cathal says:

It’s not just that, there song in 2011 was far superior to 2012 why? Because Louis has contact’s and was able to get his hands on a top notch pop song, in 2012 you had (no offence to these people intended) nobody’s involved so they ended up getting a recycled melfest song because no one who wrote a brilliant song would trust someone me one they never heard of. Louis is a big reason for them doing the PR, because he know’s what can get you extra points when it come’s to the votes, I think it’s easier to promote an individual/twin brothers plus the Brendon has the novelty of having a very unique voice (looking through all the videos on YouTube of Hometown almost all the fans have him as his favourite because of his “perfect voice”) plus unlike Jedward he can actually sing. I agree he didn’t get Hometown big outside of Ireland but after all he’s done in Eurovision for Ireland I’m willing to wait and give him a chance, he has picked the best member of Hometown for Eurovision at least so he’s already on the right track.
