Robertson’s Reflection this week looks back on the Melodifestivalen artist announcement and the shock that Loreen is back where her euphoric journey began. Supposedly her return to Melfest was confirmed hours before the Press Conference and that made me wonder: who was artist #29?
I’m torn about if I feel this is right or wrong. On one side you definitely need to have the flexibility in the production team to offer tons of flexibility to get in those artists you crave. Loreen would surely not have sent her song in through the selection jury, this would have quietly landed on the desks of those who needed it from close contacts. SVT probably in return nobbled those managing Loreen to offer up a pimp slot in Semi Final 4 and a chance at career re-launch. The same applies certainly to The Fooo – they as artists were probably approached and confirmed within SVT regardless of needing to submit a song for the September selection jury, allowing the band time to work with whichever big name songwriter they can find (and haven’t they found a big name or what…). Let’s face the reality that every headline the following morning was all about the ‘Euphoria’ singer.

Full credit to Tobbe Ek – he did actually post about Loreen in Melfest prior to the announcement. It was only the day before, but as you noted, as she apparently only agreed to do Melfest a day or so prior, it’s understandable that he didn’t have news any earlier.
