Hi, I’m a recent subscriber to the podcast in the recent months. I’m purely commenting to say that as a fellow Scot (specifically fellow Edinburger) Ewan’s reference to Pif Paf Pof made me incredibly happy! if independence in Scotland ever does come about I’d hope to God Forbes Mason and Alan Cumming reform to be their first representative. Loving the podcast folks, really brings the Contest to life. Feels like I’m there!
This is by far the harder semi to call. There are a lot of songs that fall into the category of possible qualifiers. I think Belarus and Macedonia are definitely going home followed by Finland (but who really knows on this one?). Then possibly Netherlands and Denmark (mediocre songs which might not get many free votes in an Eastern leaning semi). The final non qualifier could be between Moldova (they’ve thrown a lot of money at it but many jurors and voters may find it slightly sleazy as Samantha said), Serbia – this has all the hallmarks of a fan favourite that doesn’t get out the semi (compare Israel last year) and Belgium (great song but maybe too left field for some tastes). With Belgium it may come down to the staging. I have seen some negative comments on this previously but the impressions video and your podcast comments give me some hope.
