Newsletter: All About That Dress Written by on May 13, 2015

Welcome to a live in Vienna edition of the ESC Insight Newsletter. It’s here to bring together the best insights that we offer along with the best news and articles we uncover around us in the Eurovision Press Centre. Read the latest edition of the Newsletter on this link.

Of course rehearsals have begun and there are lots of views about what works and doesn’t. The discussions at the moment are all about clothes, and they provided inspiration to Newsletter Editor Ben Robertson for his Robertson’s Reflection column in the Newsletter? What impact can the on-stage fashion have for each entrant?

And it’s not just the Trinity plunge from the Netherlands as well. Serbia is creating a car crash of colour and my first rehearsal today has seen Lithuania come out dressed up for a summer wedding. All the Press Room can talk about is the fashion disasters that we are witnessing. It all got me thinking about how important those dresses are.

They certainly create discussion points. I watched the last edition of Inför Eurovision last night and there was lots of discussion about Måns’ performance, with a collective wish from the panelists that they want something a little more party like than the loose top and leather pants that graced Friends Arena. Similarly last year the comparisons from glamourous Conchita and curve-busting Kasey brought much amusement and could have contributed to Ireland’s Semi Final demise. I could add Serbia’s playschool dress up from 2013, Slovenia’s pavlova from 2012 and Andorra’s bunny ears from 2008 to the list of self-inflicted clothing misfortunes.

The Newsletter is going to be released every two days through the Eurovision fortnight this week. Why not join the growing number of subscribers by clicking on this link to get it straight to your inbox.
