The playing of the Eurovision theme at the end was pure gold :). You guys had done a cracking job this year. Ewan, you by far have have been the backbone of the gang and Sam, you have stepped up to the plate this year (I couldn’t resists using a baseball reference) as being the right hand lady in the field so congrats to you on doing a fine job.

  2. Mete says:

I totally agree. Both the changes made by SVT in 2013 (the producer-led draw and the ranking system) have had a damaging effect on the contest and should be repealed immediately.

  3. Peter says:

Huge thanks to Ewan, Samantha, Ben and everyone on the team for helping to make this an amazing contest. The podcasts have been great, the extended interviews were brilliant, the analysis was fascinating, and the way you always go the extra step to try and provide something different is hugely appreciated.

    Until Vienna 2015!

That was fab! I’ve loved listening to this podcasts, and for the generally great coverage. I can’t wait until next year!

As for changes, I’m not at all happy with the potential for abuse with the jury’s full ranking. What happened with UK and Ireland’s bottom ranking for Poland was nuts. It wasn’t a terrible song so do we assume that the jury members voted based on a personal prejudice against, er, heaving bosoms?

Ah well, I’m sure we’ll have lots to discuss over the next few months.

P.S. I lol’d at the Aram LP joke!

from what i hear, ireland were planning to change there NF process even if they had qualified and had it planned be4 they even arrived in CPH.

  6. Shai says:

Thank you Ewan and all the team for the extended coverage. It was as always a pleasure.

The running order decided by the producers has to go. Somehow it seems that some countries are not getting a fair treatment(not naming any country, but examples are a plenty).

Jury/televoting- The difference between some of the results are too big.
I think that ranking all songs is actually a good idea but 5 members, and all professionals, have too much power in their hands. And professional juries have their own taste.
This can be addressed if we go back to a bit bigger jury, with different ages, where half of the jury is professional and half are just non professionals. It will give more balance to the jury and may reflect a wider music taste.

    Until next year 🙂

Thanks to the ESCInsight team for making the two weeks of ESC an even better experience. Listening to your podcasts, I sometimes consider attending ESC again too …

I think you’ve been a little harsh to do a complete U-turn on Molly after the disappointing result, since you were repeatedly saying we had a real chance of winning. Vocally she was a little better on the Friday but I don’t think she ballsed it up on the Saturday. It was a decent performance and it deserved higher than 17th. But never mind.

Thanks for the very enjoyable podcasts this year team! They really add to my enjoyment of the build-up to the shows so keep up the great work.

  9. Ben Cook says:

By the way, whilst it’s great that Eastern Europe voted for Conchita, we don’t know who actually voted for her. There are surely millions of gays in Russia, and maybe they were the ones voting. I bet the general reaction of the Russian public wasn’t good.

  10. Ewan Spence says:

Ben, we did have a chance of winning, IMO, but two major factors went against it. The running order, and my gut feel that the back four where viewers get tired is harder to win from. I think once The Netherladns played many people went ‘game over’ and Molly’s backing singers and Molly singing in a lower register (coupled with a “not manic pixie dream girl” outfit) killed the chances. Put Molly in the Eurovision in Concert outfit and have her sing 19th and the result would be different – in my opinion.
